The now legendary ink drawings made between 1998 and 2009 known as the series, Elegant Myths, begun in Brooklyn, New York, are arranged into categories of size and subject matter. This section includes hundreds of drawings.
Recent
Elegant Myths in effect introduce the artist's unique brushwork in ink on paper. Influenced by early Asian calligraphy and landscape painting, and pursuing a narrative subject matter akin to Goya's prints and the Black Paintings, Shutz's drawing is characterized by a brushed vibrating line and large swaths of solid ink, a form of freehand expressionistic painting as much as drawing.
